Tag type: General
A sweatshirt is a heavy cotton pullover. They're similar, but distinct from sweaters. Sweaters are crocheted or knitted, while sweatshirts are not. Both sweaters and sweatshirts are designed to help keep the wearer warm, but a sweatshirt is also designed to absorb the sweat of the wearer and is a common garment for those exercising. Sweatshirts are therefore made of heavy cotton that can easily absorb sweat, while sweaters are typically made of light materials that generally are bad at absorbing sweat.
While a hood is relatively rare for sweaters, they're a common feature for sweatshirts to the extent that sweatshirts with a hood are referred to as hoodie|hoodies. Turtleneck collar designs are fairly common for sweaters, while sweatshirts generally lack a collar if they don't have a hood. If the sweatshirt has a hood they will typically feature drawstring|drawstrings to allow for adjusting the diameter of the hood's opening.
