this is so fucking hot <3
anyways, why are there no squids spawning in my minecraft world? i checked in ocean biomes, between the required y levels, and killed a bunch of fish to make sure the passive mob cap wasn't an issue, but still no luck. why aren't they spawning, and how do i fix it?

Agreed, It really is hot. And for the squid problem, starting with the latest 1.18 caves and cliffs squids only spawn at y lvl 63 and below, as well as they need at least 3 blocks of water tall to spawn in. Lastly would be that they share a spawn cap with dolphins so try not to have any dolphins near you. Oh and squids don't spawn close to you, stand closer to the edge of your render distance. Hope that helps

thanks! my ocean is deeper than y=63 and has no dolphins, and is definitely big enough for there to be enough distance between me and the bit of water where a squid could spawn in, so i don't think that's the issue, but thanks a ton though!

damn, what a shame. im way too invested in this now so heres my last option before i go back to my intended reason for being on r34 lol. my only other thought is that if your ocean biome is small there could be mobs underneath it. either a big cave or even a stronghold if you're that lucky. there is also a command that will kill all passive mobs in your render distance. /kill @e[type=!player] it will break signs and armor stands as well since they're considered entities. if all else fails just use that and if that doesnt work might need to break out the spawn eggs or find a different ocean biome. best of luck fellow rule34 enjoyer.
