Totally out of character for me, but the comment above seems a little misguided. 20 is the maximum you can get in any stat with no modifiers - and 20 12, last time I checked, definitely adds up to 32.

That's not how it's counted. The modifier is derived from the score, not added to it; score of 20 means 5 modifier to rolls. A score of 32 would mean 11 to rolls.
That said, no creature in the game has a score over 30.

FutaMare, that's not what modifier means in this context. Strength (8, 10, 20, 32) is the ability score, the modifier (-1, 0, 5, 11) is what this ability score adds to your attacks, skillchecks, damage and saving throws.
So yes, STR 32 is a 11 modifier. And also yes, STR is capped to 20 unless otherwise stated.
