an important thing to note is that succubare is not a word. instead it is a combination of 2 words
that being
sub (beneath)
and cubo cubare cubavi/cubui cubatum (a verb meaning to lie)
cubare, the infinitive, translated as to lie (where we obtain the definition) trakes sub on as a prefix, creating subcubare. however, pronouncing this sounds almost identical to succubare. so it is theorized that over time the word was "created" to form succuba (a noun) and then made into the english word succubus
