I don't like the song country roads. Then again, I'm not from the US and I feel it's a typical american song. I have no idea what west virginia looks like, and there are no mountains where I live. I suppose the song is intended to evoke nostalgia or some kind of homesickness, but it doesn't for me, it's just a really boring song with a melody that gets old very fast.

There is a Studio Ghibli film called Whisper of the Heart that utilises the song too. That movie is very good and if you feel like feeling nostalgic, I highly recommend it. I guess the song evokes a longing for 'furusato' or native town, old native home, even in Japanese people.

I dislike the place I live, so I guess it's my loss that I don't get the song or the sentiment behind it.

If this comment gets just one person to watch Whisper of the Heart, it will be worth it.

I 2nd what Catwoman said, seriously. Whispers of the Heart might be one of the better movies you see in your life even if you don’t like anime (like me) ...they’re actually showing it again in select theaters next month. Definitely checking it out again
