Well... technically, Campbell and Solid Snake make reference to CQB in Metal Gear Solid for the PS1. Big Boss uses CQC, which features the additional knife usage. It's a really little detail and is often overlooked.

But David is not a fan of blades, as stated in MGS2. Where as Jack did train with knives. (Pardon the nerdy fan, bullshit. I know zero people care, but I really love Metal Gear)

CQC is a blanket term for close quarters combat (fighting within 15-18 meters of the target), so anything hand to hand or with handheld weaponry. The current definition covers both original CQC, which is focused on edged or impacting weapons, and CQB which focuses on handguns and small firearms being incorporated into hand-to-hand fighting (like John Wick gun-kata stuff)
