Somehow John got involved in an accident with his retcon powers , some time travel shenanigans, and explosions. He got hurled through the paradox space and onto a new... universe? Timeline? Had things really changed? The city didnt look any different from when he left - Earth C was brimming with carapaces, trolls, humans, and hybrids between races. Oh- he even sees a familiar face!
