It was cool when I was 12, not anymore.
I don't understand why people deify image boards and think they're the world's "last bastion for free speech"
Because Twitter, Facebook and Instagram don't support Free Speech, and anyone who says otherwise is either being disingenuous or a fool.
Free speech is all around you. It's called real life.
Mainstream social media sites can censor people on a whim. Sites like Twitter have essentially become the Town Square (not to mention Twitter hosts all of our politicians, take Taxpayer money and host emergency services).
You can make a serious argument that all American Citizens should have Twitter access as a right. There's already precedent for "private companies" who own the means of discussion being responsible for platforming free speech.
If a company owned town can't step on the first amendment, why can a company like Twitter step on the Town Square of our age?
Because, money. Twitter, Facebook, etc. had something that the public didn't know it wanted and know they have money.
It should be no surprise to anyone that money gives you influence and power so of course a corporation can do things average people can't.
But my biggest gripe are those who think "freedom of speech is dead" somehow because they can't throw slurs around at people on the internet without getting a slap on the wrist. The internet isn't the final frontier for free speech, there's an entire world out there.
It's stupid how people believe the world they live and breathe in has somehow become a "Leftist" police state that crucified anyone for wrongspeak.
