I'm actually not a very big fan of anime because I ain't no fucking weeaboo.
I can probably count on my fingers all the animes I genuinely like and will sit down to watch.

They're nice, but I'm falling out of them pretty hard as I'm getting older.
Once upon a time I wanted action and stimulation where now I need respectable narrative, believable character development and choice. Unfortunately it seems the majority of the anime industry isn't really interested in that and continue the trend of forever catering to teenagers instead of anyone in their aging audience.
..But then again I grew up on Shonen, I've heard of several anime's for adults, but so many of them seem to cater to super violence, idk. Maybe I'll pick up a book instead?

I enjoy anime when it's the best medium to present a compelling story. I prefer manga, only because there is an art to page layout and composition that anime can't match. You never get "page turn surprises" in anime. And the actual animation rarely adds to the story itself.
For instance, I think Dragon Ball and DBZ translate to the page better than the anime, because the line work conveys motion and impact even better than the moving visuals of the anime!
That being said, there are some series, I adore in animated form. Outlaw Star could never get away with the smooth chaotic visuals in just book form. That series looked smoother than butter and jam.

I don't think it is impossible for a single person to love all anime. But it is equally impossible for someone to hate all anime.
If someone is thinking about trying anime, they shouldn't start with something that others tell them is good, but start with something they are into.
No matter what kind of stuff you are into, there is an anime for you, if you find the right one and actually give it a try.

For me anime and manga are the best forms of entertainment with videogames and music.
If I would explain all the reasons why this post would become an essay. Shortest way I can explain is that I've always preferred eastern media over western one in many areas and I just love animated and drawn series, comics etc.
Of course this doesn't mean that every anime is a masterpiece. There are a lot of mediocre and bad stuff as well, but somehow I can enjoy generic anime series more than generic western cartoon or live-action series for example.
