canine x a billion....
I just got here, so I don't know much about the site. I came because the site rule34.paheal.net is down for some reason and I found this site in an old Yahoo! Answer.

Looking through tags there seem to be a shitload of the same tag, that being "canine" all of them @ 17399 tags... it's flooding the tag list making it almost completely a completely useless feature. I can't remove any of them... and well I don't even really see how it's possible that they are all counting as different tags...
It just seems stupid that's all.

Some tags just don't make sense to me
As I said, I'm new to the site and some of the other tags just don't seem to make sense to me and honestly seem to serve no purpose at all...
I can certainly see how this site is freeer than paheal and and such there are a lot more tags, some very useful that would be considered a bad thing by tagging nazis at paheal, others just seem confusing....
Like one_eye_closed?? does anyone actually look for porn based on this feature?
Aw shit that chick has both eyes open, fuck this? Does anyone actually say that?

Matter of opinion
I'm also seeing others like dumb_bitch and dumb_slut. That have no factual connection to the picture and are simply a matter of opinion.
So either someone is needlessly tagging to get rid of the "tagme" tag (which from reading requires 5 tags) or someone is tagging them so that they can find them again? In which case the browser does have a favorites button, or you could easily save the picture to your computer?

Just the vast amounts of tags is overwhelming
By searching just wildcards I find there are 141,681 tags which seems like a lot even for a database.
It asks me to redefine my search so there's no way to view all of them by alphabetical order.
I'm guessing there are a lot of similarities like I saw "gag," "gags" which could be different from gagging granted

but

gag-ball, gag_ball, and gagball could surely be one tag?

I think this could be easily manageable if there were someway to decrease the tags enough to see the new unnecessary tags being formed and change them to existing tags that already describe what they are trying to tag. (I'm not saying decrease the tags to any where near as decreased as paheal because honestly that sucked, that site was not user friendly in terms of searching).

We are currently improving tags, this is a job for everyone, pointing it out does not fix the situation, the majority of our images coems from other sites who don't have very organised tagging systems, so really it's up to everyone to help correct these.

It's a mammoth task but it's been whittled down slowly by those few who are willing to spend time on it, Rule34 does not make enough money to pay for someone to fix this issue, therefore it's up to volenteers to surgest aliases and retag as appropriate.

How?
Is this all done through the tags section? or does each image need to be visited?
For example how would I take care of canine?
For what I can see there are 1972 tags of the same name that being "canine," they all look the same the only way I can even think of why they would be counted as a different tag is if there are spaces for example "canine" "canine " "canine "

I wasn't pointing it out to simply point it out, I'm not stupid, I realize that doesn't do anything. I was pointing it out to see what could be done about it, as I mentioned, I'm new.

Now it seems to be doing the same thing with "bovine"

I would say it would be best to begin with certain area's yes, I can also edit tags upon request, which will change all of that tag.

A lot of tags are just misspellings, too. Zoophilia I often see misspelled as Zoophila, so it's annoying when I blacklist one thing but it keeps getting through because of things like that.

If only there was some sort of batch process to fix each problem at once, for all the posts.

Actually
Actually if you go to Tags at the top of the page and look through the pages then you'll find "canine" and "bovine" are listed many times as separate tags. The odd thing is they are all spelled the same and I have concluded that they do not have any spacing. This will not be fixed by aliases as if you click on the tag and bring up the images the same one of the tags, "canine" and another "canine" will bring up the exact same search results which would lead me to believe that the images were tagged "canine" twice, but when I clicked on the images it showed only one "canine" tag. This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the website in concerns to the "Tags" section, which for whatever reason it is duplicating the tag on the "Tags" list section.
Very odd. It's doing the same thing with "bovine" I can't say with all assurance but since the same thing is happening to "canine" and "bovine" then it may have something to do with "ine".

tbh, I've seen those opinionated "dumb_bitch", "dumb_slut", and many other tags, but I actually appreciate them.

"Slut" is a tag that's really hard to define and very opinion-based, but I still use it a lot since it's a hit-or-miss tag that still gets me what I want.

Overall, I think those tags should be kept, lest some over-zealous untagger gets rid of the stuff I still want to find.

I agree. These are somewhat personal tags, that others will also agree with. They don't pose any problem, and I don't see them as clutter. Like I said in another post, its far better that people over-tag, then not tag at all, as long as the tags are not false or misleading. Tags are not there to be admired, they are for searches, blacklists, and finding more of the same of a pic.

I'm not sure what your exactly trying to say. Canine and bovine are two different things. Canine is dog, and bovine is cow. The only problem I have seen so far with tags is that some tags in my blacklist are shown anyway.

Right... I'm aware that they are two different things...
go to the tags section they are repeated tags... the system is duplicating them. I was saying the reason that it might be doing the same thing to both what that they both contain "ine"... But as I said I'm not sure why the system is messed up.

Yeah, I see what your saying about the tags. That's just the system messing up. Some new bug.
