I thought it was mainly for kids, fans and people who saw it as an opportunity to exercise.

Oh no, it was definitely for casuals. Nintendo made that very clear. Not necessary a bad thing, Iwata's goal with the Wii was get the attention of people that normally wouldn't be interested in video games.

The problem was the audience it created for it's self didn't keep a strong interest in gaming. By year 3 hardware sales already took a big slump. Only things that really sold were meh tier mini-game comps and stuff Nintendo published themselves. So that scared off bigger name 3rd parties. Can list other stuff while at it.

I think the Wii was a bit rushed. Motion controls weren't that big a thing when it came out and there wasn't a console centered around it. For most games it just felt like the motion controls were a gimmick that you had to work around with rather than an actual interesting game mechanic and I don't think there were that many games that I wouldn't have played on a different console instead if it wasn't an exclusive.

Went on a bit of a tangent there but I just wanted to explain my view on the console a bit before giving my point on that. I think it was definitely aimed at casual consumers because there wasn't that much enjoyment to be had outside of simple movement/click and point/minigames given the general jankyness of the Wii.

This is all purely my opinion and experience of course.

I agree, the wii didn't ever seem to have a dedicated audience till the wii u which I feel was targeting gamers more.

well motion controls themselves despite naysayers saying it was only a fad proved to be very successful and it's still being used in my opinion it's kinda overhated but I do understand people's issues with it I wouldn't call it rushed but it could have been better I feel like there is a good amount of games that could appeal to core gamers but sometimes it sadly gets overshadowed

also your right about the casual stuff being sold the most one of it's main targets were the casuals and it worked and it may have scared some people off I feel like since other more core games didn't sell as well as the casual games that might be a reason why some people don't really know about the 'hard core' games it had nintendo did publish those games but they published a lot more to

Have you ever played Boom Blox? It should have been immediately obvious it was meant for pros with steady precision.

No no, it's totally serious. You have to have a good television and a lot of patience and precision for some of the more delicate levels. Some you just throw shit around to win, but a few need you to pull specific blocks gently and slowly, which is a real pain with a non-motion plus wiimote and an old television.
