Help: Stop Chrome from downloading WebM instead of streaming them
At least 90% of the WebM video posts on this site downloads onto my computer instead of streaming when I click "original image" or "open video in new tab." This is really annoying as I'm constantly going into my files and deleting these as soon as they download.

sorry, i can't find any way to enable standalone media playback in chrome (regardless of content-disposition)

the only solution i have is to switch to Firefox and make sure you have the "media.play-stand-alone" option set to "true"

This is just a Chrome issue.

My suggestion is to use a browser with better video playback support.

It's just that this sort of thing only happens to WebM/MP4 videos on *this* site. I haven't experienced it on any other site where, instead of opening the video, it downloads.

I don't have any issues with that and I use Chrome.

what chrome version are you using?

with the latest chrome i couldn't get *any* videos to play standalone.
maybe there's some setting i couldn't find...

Assuming you WANT to download an MP4/WebM, what program would you use for playback?

Firefox :D

Where can I get that? I know I can "Google" it but I want to be sure it's a legit (safe) site.

right here: www.smplayer.info/en/downloads
(prefer the 64-bit version if you can)

i've been using it for over 5 years

it runs the open source MPV and MPlayer multimedia engines

Hi, sorry for replying so late, I just literally forgot about this thread. Anyway, to answer your question, bipface, I'm using the newest version of Chrome. Though I always try to ignore it whenever there's a new update until the browser decides to update by itself.

okay i worked it out,

bimg.rule34.xxx serves videos with Content-Type: application/octet-stream instead of video/webm.
chrome doesn't like that.

as a workaround you can use img.rule34.xxx (without the "b") instead which does seem to serve the right content-type

there seems to be some kind of load-balancing between the two domains, so it may be random which one you get on the actual page
