This year is going to be a challenging year for us. As you may be aware we run on advertisements as our source of revenue. Some may argue this isen't the best way but its the most easy way for free sites like us. The rise of adblockers has been crippling the revenue quite a bit, in return many sites adding more annoying ads such as the popunder and this in return resulted in a higher amount of adblockers.

At rule34.xxx i think we always kept our ads very fair, around the content and only a single pop. Unlike other hentai competitors. This year we have more then just adblock rising, google itself is going to be enforcing the internet to make sure the ads on the websites are okay by a program called Coalition for Better Ads. Whenever this is a good thing or not is something we'll have to see, they are using their monopoly with google chrome to enforce this.

The first mayor change will be that somewhere around 23 January we will be dropping our biggest source of revenue that racks in 38% of total. The annoying popunder. We are doing this to be in compliance with betterads standards. In addition we will be working on a feature that allows contributing users to disable ALL ads in the profile page. Also a patreon pledge with just $1 would enable you to disable ads and access to more functionality that are planned for 2018. However, we will be blocking adblockers starting feb 2018 from visiting the site after a certain amount of pageviews.

These are the current stages.
Stage 1: Implement feature to disable advertisements for contributing users, current standards in mind are set if users reaches ANY of the following = 1k posts / 1.5k tag edits / 500 forum posts
Stage 2: API integration with payment providers such as patreon and maybe alternatives in the future. Donating any amount will put you in a supporter group that also has the ability to disable ads and in the future other functionality.
Stage 3: Remove popunder code at 23 January.
Stage 4: Implement a blockage for adblockers on 1 February.

Deadlines for stage 1&2 are somewhere before 23 January. With this post i want to ensure full transparency of our plans. Hope it works out in the end ;)

This all seems good, the only thing I don't like about this site is the popunder, I can easily ignore the other ads and I don't have an adblocker on my phone, so that dosen't matter to me.

I have 3 questions.

#1: What happens if you donate money to Patreon Pledge before the changes are made?

#2: Will adblocker users be affected by the "restriction" if their adblock is disabled for the rest of their site visitations?

#3: Where is the patreon pledge? I'd like to donate.

1) While we have no groups setup now the plan is to add all patreons to the new supporter group, regardless of the amount. So if you want to support us already you can!

2) No, the plan is to nag a bit first then possibly messing with it later but if at any point adblock is turned off it should all be okay.

Oh and if you disable adblock you also get nice tag suggestions! I wish everybody has access to it but all our scripts are blocked :(

Is it possible that we'll get a search function in the mail system to look through old messages?

That would be nice, as well as a search feature for favorites or folders.

Will we get better mobile support? Or is that not an option because of the not owning the software thing?

So if the active user adblock thingy takes place, do your base requirements reset, or do you already get it if you meet the requirements?

Isen't our mobile laying pretty good already?


If you already meet the requirements you can disable all ads as soon as we release the feature.

Also these plans are not finalized completely so its more of a concept, we're working on it though!

Um, the number of forum posts and posts are swapped for the active user thing, here it says 1,000 posts and 500 forum posts, on the account it says 500 posts and 1,000 forum posts.

Will users be added to the list of Ad-Cancelled users if they pledge? Cause I just pledged on Patreon.
