How to find English translation of artist names?
Lately I started tagging my pics with artist names and descriptors, but some artists names don't translate properly into English. EG right now I just saved a pic from a guy called "Hanshu" (on here) and then went on his Pixiv and his name on there is "灼热之痕'", but when I put that into Google Translate it gives me "Hot Marks", and if I put "Hansho Pixiv" into Google, it of course doesn't work. For the artists that only have Japanese names, how do I know if I'm getting the right translation? How did they turn 灼热之痕' into Hansho and not Hot Marks (lol)?

Thanks

No clue how they do it...but I trust real people more than I trust Google translate. I imagine there some people on Gelbooru/Danbooru who speak Japanese as well as English and who are responsible for translating these names...it's either that or the artist has a different page they post on that has an English name...I've seen that as well. At any rate if all the boorus use the same name the system works no matter what the name is anyways.

I think a good thing to do though is to make an artist page for artists that are difficult to find on Google. So that there is still an easy way to track them down. I've just made one for Hanshu.

if they have a pixiv account i usually google "pixiv USER-ID"
where user-id is their numerical ID
often this finds you a link to their danbooru wiki entry which tells you their latin name

example: www.google.com/search?q=pixiv+"383331"
-> danbooru wiki is the 9th result for me

you can also try a saucenao search on one of their images; this sometimes tells you a readable artist name
