What kind of music genre do you think is often overlooked or underrated?
I’ve been a bit curious as to this topic for a bit. I’ve been in the metal scene for only a year and I’ve seen the crazier and more dark subgenres like dsbm and other subgenres of the sorts.

I wonder if this idea of more underground and unknown genres there may be, I’d be willing to give all genres a listen! And yes I know music is subjective, but broadening my perspective of different kinds of music is the fun of it for me!

If you're enjoying power metal and enjoy medieval fanatasy stuff I would suggest looking at the german medieval/ folk rock- metal scene.

This really is giving me a refresher as to how specific some subgenres can really get, it’s neat learning about a new medieval style subgenre, thanks for the suggestion!

I got into Type O Negative's stuff and now i wanna go through more gothic/doom metal, which i don't think gets any mainstream attention (that in and of itself could be a good thing)
Ska isn't as appreciated as it was around 20 plus years ago and 80% of what i've listened to shits all over what's popular these days (even with the like's of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones not being as good as they once were).

I can see why you’d say them not getting any mainstream attention is a good thing, some bands suffer from popularity and eventually begin to deteriorate into this overhyped band. I used to like slaughter to prevail before they released their kostlom album, but now that they got filthy rich off of that they do make new singles but I feel like it lost its originality and is now divebombing into what new grindcore sound Alex can make.
