I haven't read the books, but I do remember watching the movies to where the elder wand gets destroyed. Though it did gave me the thought if someone from the side watched that happen and wait for them to leave the area is when that certain someone would recover it and fix it to use again. I would probably be that person doing that a hundred percent and trying that wand out for the heck of it.

Well, the wand chooses the wizard so it might be anything, but I'd hope for one of apple or pine. As for the core, unicorn hair would be most likely but there's always a chance it might be something else, perhaps even thestral hair.
