Never bought one n don't plan on it but you can't go wrong with a dildo.

For a first toy, I'd recommend something reasonably sized and not too expensive. Probably silicon would be the way to go, but I only have the one dildo (and that's what it's made from) so I can't speak to other materials. But it's squishy and forgiving. Mine was literally $20, later if you want something better, more realistic, bigger etc you can but go for something chill and cheap for the first one I would say.

Buy lube, it will make you life much easier

dont forget to buy toy cleaner! if you go to a shop in person the employees may be able to help you pick out a lube and cleaner. also don't get silicone based lube with silicone based toys.

A good rule of thumb for lube is don't put anything in your anus or vagina that you wouldn't put in your mouth. Some sex shop lubes contain a mild numbing agent that can make it easy for the inexperienced to hurt themselves without realizing it at the time.

Shortening/Crisco works great as lube but doesn't wash off easily and can permanently stain linens.

K-Y Jelly works well and washes off easily, but it tends to dry out and become sticky during longer sessions, necessitating re-application.


Dawn or any other grease-cutting dish detergent should more than adequate for toy cleaning purposes.

I have to suggest a nice cage

I've thought about it too but never been sure if it's worth it. But I've kinda always wanted one of those realistic dildos for like the sole purpose of giving/practicing blowjobs.

A buttplug is a better start imo.
