Doing one thing and doing it well is a good bet for a series. I like how much less spectacle-driven this series is compared to most of its contemporaries, especially as more modern racing simulators took some of the GT players who came for the image of playing "the real driving simulator."
(I have never played 6 and have no plans to play 7 unless Polyphony decides to allow local saves. Sport is mechanically fantastic, though I never bothered to play it online.)

Sonic the Hedgehog
Although i'm of the opinion that it hasn't had a legitimately great installment since 2001.
Unleashed was mediocre at best, colors looks the same, Frontiers looks empty and souless i don't care how many callbacks they make, still haven't played Mania because the 2d games are overrated in every category except music and enemy designs.
Ffs Sega i just want Adventure PORTED to switch, NO remake, NO remaster, Just a port i'd be willing to pay full price for.
Close second, but mostly for the universe rather than the media itself. The concept is great: a physics-based rubber-hose cartoon platformer. The games are hit-and-miss, and I hesitate to call any of them "good," much less "great." The current comics are fine, but I am not an active reader of them, and there are just too many new characters for me. I just picked up Frontiers because it was on sale. Forgive me as I have not finished yet.
It made me realise how many of the series' flaws seem to be permanently ingrained at this point: small budgets, strange and stilted dialogue, contrived and awkward level design, excessive reuse of old locales and assets, and so on. It honestly feels like a step backwards from Forces in many ways, which I criticise for the many of the same reasons. In fact, the problem of excessive call-backs may be even worse in Frontiers because it literally feels like the plot completely halts to wink and nod to the audience, while Forces at least had the dignity to clearly work it into the plot.
The physics engine is a strange in-house concoction that is difficult to predict in too many circumstances and seems to be fractured between 2D versus 3D, Overworld versus Cyberspace, and rolling versus boosting. And the environments are just painfully generic, barren, and inconsistent. And the pacing is just too slow.
The soundtrack is nice, though. Very inspired. A bit weird to make metalcore the soundtrack of the bosses and to have such a wide variety of EDM styles for Cyberspace, though.
Sorry for the long rant.
