Add a solution of 10 g of methylamine and 5 g of sodium cyanoborohydride in 50 mL of ethanol to the reaction flask and stir at room temperature for 24 hours. 8. Quench the reaction by slowly adding water and then add hydrochloric acid (HCl) to adjust the pH to 2. 9. Extract the mixture with diethyl ether, wash with water and dry over sodium sulfate (Na2SO4). 10. Evaporate the solvent to obtain methamphetamine as a yellow oil. 11. Dissolve methamphetamine in a small volume of ethanol and add a solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to adjust the pH to 11. 12. Extract the mixture with diethyl ether, wash with water and dry over sodium sulfate (Na2SO4). 13. Evaporate the solvent to obtain methamphetamine hydrochloride as a white powder.
