... maybe you haven't seen that many pairs of women's underwear in your life bud, but that's 100% *not* a thong. The amount of fabric in back is more than a thong would have (it'd be super uncomfortable and bad looking to cram that much fabric into her crack); while we technically can't see how thick they are along one part, there's just no real reason to believe "thong" when "panties" make so much more sense. As far as the ribbon goes, there's probably just a decoration on the front as well as the back... if there were only one decoration, then yeah, it's usually on the front (regardless of the style of underwear - including thongs) but decorations on the back aren't unheard of either.
