I don't think Giselle is truly male, otherwise Giselle would have a proper male name instead of "Giselle" that starts with the letter "G".Not only that, but would have a far more neutral or a rather uncaring response to Yumichika's words.
Call me weird, but I always thought that it were her zombies that had done her. As in she just had finished being gangraped by some random soul reapers turned zombies, thus Yumichika remark. But that's just my two cents. Giselle is cute anyways, so that kind of thing doesn't really matter.
Well a lot of people may not know this, but there are androgynous or obviously feminine characters/people from different series who are truly male and even say so themselves or from their own mouths. Haku from Naruto never identified as female, not even as a transgender female, and made it clear he is indeed male without any sarcasm or lies. Because of this confirmation, he was wasn't mistaken as female again by the same people. Giselle not being able to answer properly means that the gender debate of Giselle continues even to this year.
