It honestly depends for me. For games if the remake improves a lot of the original's problems and a builds upon what is already established, then I will take the remake. For example, I love the Sonic CD remake. They fixed the collision detection issues, they improved the spindash, fixed the framerate problem in the special stages, and now you can listen to both the US and Japanese Soundtrack. Also the music in the remake loops properly instead of just stopping for a bit, giving you dead silence and then looping. Oh and you can unlock Tails as a playable character.

Yea it depends. Some remakes, like Skyrim's recent face-lift, are great. Better frame-rate, better visuals, a 64-bit engine that will be modded to hell and back. Some are just kind of meh. Like the Halo 1 remake. Didn't improve anything, just gave the game a higher frame rate and massively improved graphics, but nothing else really. And then there are the bad ones. Like the Bioshock collection. Remakes that dare too ask for money when absolutely no work was put into fixing any of the problems the original games had. An absolute shit-stain in the consumer's face posing as an ode too them.

I agree. So tired of the "hey remember this cool childhood cartoon? Now it's grittier and edgier."

The new Thundercats wasn't bad and i guess the new Voltron is alright. Of course it a lot of times come down to subjective tastes. I for one actually enjoy the Matthew Broderick Godzilla while most people hiss and throw Holy Water in it general direction. The thing prequel wasn't horrible, although I think a sequel would have been more fitting. There aren't a lot of movies I watch that get remade, they are not in high demand, I mostly watch creature features. I guess the closest thing to a remake that i've seen it Spiders (2000) and Spiders (2016).

Depends obviously. Sometimes I like covers of songs better than the original version and vice versa. Same goes for everything else. Impossible to generalize. I loved Power Rangers when I was a kid, and now they are remaking it with this new movie. As an adult I'd probably enjoy watching the new movie more than the show. Of course I'd still watch the OG Power Rangers, just for nostalgia. Of course some things should never have been remade... At least not by Michael Bay. Wanker.

If you like power rangers watch gokaiger, and kyuranger. Japan's power rangers, where we got power rangers from.

Well i am a huge fan of movies, tv shows and all that stuff. But mostly Remakes fall flat on their faces for me. And i include the importation of a story from one medium into another into that. Sure there are good examples like the witcher series, The thing from another world (Which i freaking love) or even Game of Thrones. (and to an extent the marvel movies)

Buuut most of them are sadly just an attempt to cash in on something already popular. Most of the time its a misunderstanding of what made the original so great or the desperate need to be "New" and "EDGY!"

The Thing prequel, Robocop,Total Recall, TMNT, Transformers, the DC Movieverse and the list goes on and on and on.

Though making a remake is pretty simple. In the words of a much smarter man:

"all you fucking do is take the original..And make a movie just like it. If you wanna go a step further: Make the effects better. If you wanna go even further: Leave out things that did not work in the original. But for that of course you have to realize why people loved it. If you cant bother? Fuck off."

I think the robocop remake was actually pretty good, doesn't hold up with the original rated r version but it's good

i would prefer for creative people to focus their efforts towards new original works; the endless stream of sequels and remakes is getting tiresome.

that said, the occasional remix can yield some nice results. when the source material has a couple of really outstanding elements while being mediocre overall, it maybe be a good candidate for a remake/remix.

example: Kantai Collection
a massive assortment of great characters, but very minimal gameplay
the obvious thing to do is take some of these characters and write a compelling story for them
