need to offload this stuff
I have about 17,000+ images/video on my PC that I need to get off my drive so I can format and fix my computer. Most of it is from dead/unknown sites, so a good bit of it is rare if never seen before by most. I would rather not throw it all away, and I cannot upload it all myself. So I need help, if anyone wants it, let me know, I can pack it and have it scanned for viruses and all the whatevers you want. I need this done asap though.

How much are we talking about here in terms of space? How would you even go about the transfer?

Maybe its the IT-Guy in me but..thats why you make backups kids. I advice the following: Since your PC is apperantly still working, i recommend buying a HDD or SSD. Personally i would recommend the HDD since you will be off way cheaper and you can expect a longer life span.

I do not know how big your files are but i highly suspect it should be at least 10 terrabytes. Or at least thats what you should opt for.

Transfer your data and reset your PC. Thats a time intensive and cost intensive way i know, but the main Advantage is your autonomy. You are also prepared for another crash since you can run the files directly from the HDD or just use it as a backup. I actually recommend doing the former and then getting another HDD for the latter.

Considering that by sending files to people over here you are basically relying on other peoples kindheartedness and open yourself up for viral infections, this seems reasonable. Furthermore, space in a cloud can equally be as expensive and is by no means an ideal solution. Specially if your pc breaks down.

Second this. You should also think about investing in a "Grandfather-Father-Son" principle of backups. There are even rather cheap and effective programs that can help organize things.

I don't understand how this became a discussion about backup procedures. All this guy wants is to relocate his forgotten porn stash so he can reformat his drive.

If it's less than 50GB I suggest uploading it to mega.nz for the meantime. Maybe split it across multiple accounts if it's larger (this could be quite a hassle with 3 or more though)

Again, no need to scan multimedia files (images, video, audio) for viruses. They don't contain executable code, so they can't harbour viruses.

o_O huh? you're saying uploaded data to other people makes you vulnerable to malware? what kind of nightmares have you experienced that you lead you to this conclusion?

The reason for that is the attempt to give him a solution that actually holds value beyond just this one time. PC problems can happen all the time and if he wants to keep his pornstash a backup is reasonable. Specifically: A backup is always reasonable and this would be a nice opportunity and justification to make one. Even more so if you consider that most people are too lazy to do it.

The reason why i advice against sending your data to other people is that you might want to have it back. At which point things can easily attached to it. Be it or skype or other sources.

I do not say it happens, i say there is a risk. If you are willing to take thats up to you. I would not because i like my setup.

And as i said: I work in IT. You would not believe what kind of bullshit people pulled. Or what is possible. Its not about the media itself containing the executable data. But its easy to sneak that data in beyond those. Poison Tap for example is something i found rather funny in its simplicity.

Overall: Its better to invest into a straight up back up now and never have this problem again instead of going through the hassle of trying to find 50 places to upload this amount of data.

If he does not want to do that.Thats fine. But dont shit on my advice when i was generally trying to help him -.-

no need to overreact, i simply implied that what you were talking about didn't seem directly relevant to this case
