I try to not be picky on the subject. I am slightly husky myself at 170 to 180 pounds which is okay for a dude my height. I have tried to bulk up and get muscular in the past -- tried very hard actually -- but that doesn't seem to be in my bio-chemical potential.
Make a plan, make sure the plan is decent - and quite importantly, make sure the plan is simple and foolproof, then follow it with stubborn diligence and it will work regardless of shit genetics. Obviously we all have our differing limits of potential but I've never met a person that wasn't able to dramatically improve their physique if they followed these steps.
Most people that fail generally do one or more of the following:
Cut themselves too much slack (skipping workouts, eating things they shouldn't, not sleeping enough, etc.);
Not realising they're fucking up (assuming they're eating better than they are due to not counting calories, assume they're working out harder than they are due to not recording workouts, etc.);
Making things too complex, planning everything in minutia (overly specific macros, nutrient timing, carb cycling, convoluted training patterns, overdose of supplements, etc.) at the expense of getting a foundation right;
Just plain shitty plans, of which they are many, e.g paleo diets, mens health style training programmes, following pro-bodybuilder style splits (whilst neglecting the anabolic steroid component of such plans), crossfit, and so on.
