Rogue One Discussion [Spoilers]
Making this thread because I need to vent about how fucking great the newest Star Wars was.

Mainly, the ending was fucking incredible, and made that movie my favorite of the whole franchise. It made all of the characters actually feel human again, with how they were full of emotion. From the worried looks on the faces of the Rogue group as they were headed for Scarif to the enthusiasm of the Rebel fleet as they jumped into orbit in an all-out strike against the orbiting Imperial fleet.

And holy shit, the last scene. Darth Vader cutting through the Rebel troops as the one screams for help through the door, and the last courier of the plans desperately running from Vader as he continued to effortlessly slice through the panicking Rebels, finally shutting the airlock behind him and yelling "LAAAAAAUUUNCH!"

I'm probably just over-hyped, what did you all think of the movie?

Agree on everything, great movie. Maybe not the best, though.

Another thing I remember liking in the movie was how Stormtroopers were shown not dying from one laser blast. Like when the blind guy (can't remember his name) was using one as a shield on Jedaa, the trooper could be seen still moving as he was being shot.

My biggest problem really was everything revolving around Forest Whitaker..Not only is his character absolutely fucking useless, makes no sense and just leaves the movie..Its also probably one of the worst performances from him ever..Its like he just pushed in some vicodin and went: "Fuck this, i´m in star wars. I win"

That made it really hard to connect to the characters..because they devoted half the movie to him, even though he could be entirely cut without any problems.

Rest of the movie was awesome..but the first half is just dragging

Best part of the whole movie was the smart-mouthed robot. Loved that character. The ending was...meh. Honestly they kind of took the easy way out...killing off all the characters made it so they would never have to consider them again in future films or even novelizations.

The Darth Vader scene was awesome, but carving up a few rebel soldiers is child's play to him. As cool as it was he failed in his ultimate goal of getting back the Death Star plans. Ofc the plans had to escape, but I wish they would of had to be more tricky in order to evade him. As it was it was simply "oh no, he's here, launch a blockade runner and fly away!" That was literally all it took.

So all in all I'm pretty happy with the movie, but when it comes to the ending I'm just the complete opposite LOL.

I loved the Vader Scene. I loved the Movie too, especially the CGI recreations of Tarkin and Princess Leia. My experience was slightly spoiled by a bawling baby.

Well the simple fact however is that they really could not let these people stay alive. For a simple reason:

They were not in the original movies.

Yeah i know that sounds stupid at first but there is a reason why the line "Many people died to get these plans" is there.

Specifically so we do not have to bother with them.

If we retroactively inject 2 characters into the movieverse, who got out the plans and then somehow survived, we would have to make up an entire story why the fuck the rebels never even mentioned them beyond that line.

And i think nobody wants to retcon star wars at this point..

So yeah the death was unavoidable

It's a fair point, but precisely why it's so predicable that they all died. If at least one lived it would be a plot twist that would have surprised me. Maybe a character from Rogue One could have even reappeared in episode 8, but I understand explaining an absence that lengthy would be hard to do.

Specially if you consider that if if you would be luke skywalker..you would kinda want to talk to the person who made it out alive right? Its one thing if you are space admiral in..well space. But if you are there on the planet, getting the plans out..

That should have a luke skywalker scene..But obviously they could not do that.

Wouldnt hold it against the movie though. They did what they could and anything else would have been unnecessary and just a pain in the ass to work with.

I only wish it had a higher frame rate. 24hz did not do it justice.

Should we start a petition for the robot and the blind dude to get their own spinoff sitcom? Just have blind dude come back as a force ghost and say the droid had a backup memory drive off planet.

Everybody dies, the rebel forces literally gain "a new hope", the end.

I agree with this review:

I enjoyed the movie because I like Star Wars. The scenery was great.

But the characters and story, if you were to remove all the Star Wars elements, is incredibly boring and simplistic.

Also, why do they keep making the bad guys less and less effective in every movie. There is zero tension because they just slaughtered Stormtroopers so easily that they don't seem like a powerful Empire that they are rebelling against.
