How do you find the stuff you like here?
Any tips or secrets you want to share with the rest of the class?
Do you just know the exact names of the tags you want and put in a long search string? Do you look up other people's favorites who have similar tastes? Do you just use this site for socializing mostly and use another site to actually find things to get off to?
I'm getting a little weary of getting turned off by all the weird shit I see in the process of finding something good. I should probably be using the tag blacklist more.

I normally know the tags I'm looking for. I sometimes browse comments though tend to steer clear of the self righteous walls of texts that are all conveniently posted anonymously.

I would be in the camp of knowing exact names of the tags. The comments often give me something more to delete/clean up.

Usually i go through someone else's favorites or search for a particular author. The Comment sectionis another source for me but i don't go there very oftenly.

Mostly via others favorites and comments. When I find something I like I go for the artist and start browsing.

I find there are a few potential different methods for finding the good stuff:

Checking the new posts as they're uploaded until you find something in a style you like, then checking out that artist's other work (remembering the name of the artist for searching later on);

Checking new posts for subjects that appeal, then working out which of the tags apply to the parts you like best (again, remembering these for later searches);

Just trying searches for things you like the idea of, having a go with different tags until you find the ones that work;

Using the Comments tab in much the same way as the new posts, with the bonus that you'll get stuff that's been around for a while you might have missed the first time;

And occasionally there's something good in the Pools tab that might give you something new to 'research'.

Personally I come on here mostly to chat these days, but I usually keep an eye on the pics as well; other people's faves can be useful but are a bit more hit-and-miss. Unfortunately there's always going to be masses of stuff that doesn't really appeal whatever method you use, so you should probably experiment with blacklisting as you mentioned.

I still get queries about people not finding things and they just don't use _ as a space.

If you wanted princess peach, you would search: princess_peach

not: princess peach, or putting just princess, or just peach, remember with any two word names, the underscore is a space!

that's my main tip!

I've noticed uploaders aren't as diligent with proper tagging here as is dan- and gelbooru

Always use the Asterisk(*) at the end of a search word, so you dont have to needle a thread with the exact words used in the tag:
For example
"moana_waialiki[/url]"
can be found with "Moana*" and if you want to narrow it further go to a image with the character or thing you want, and see what tags are there for that image and use them, also using the dash(-)before a word excludes it so: "Moana* -yaoi" keeps you from seeing images tagged "Yaoi"

Also there is a Tag list :rule34.xxx/index.php?page=tags&s=list
Here you can look for tags, e.g. for "butt" "ass" "booty" and other similar terms and see that tags there are for them, all at once, without loading a bunch of images.

And don't forget the Asterisks(**) which can be used both before and after the tag search word;
Searching: "Dat*" with get you results that start with the letters "Dat~"(like "datendou");
but doing "*Dat" will get you tags ending with the letters "~dat"(like "mcsadat");
and doing "*dat*" will get you EVERY word with the letters "~dat~"("Dat_ass","idaten_jump","the_dating_guy","pussy_data","slap_dat_ass","tenioha!_onna_no_ko_datte_honto_ha_ecchi_da_yo?" etc)

I'll admit I'm guilty of this; mainly because tagging a fresh image is time consuming and boring. I always try to add the artist and source at least, and basic meta stuff like {"animated", "alpha_channel", "real", "tagme"} that I can pick without thinking too hard about the image's content.

I'm getting a little weary of getting turned off by all the weird shit I see in the process of finding something good. I should probably be using the tag blacklist more.

Most of the time, I just check the main gallery page (/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=all), see if there's anything I like, maybe looking through the first 2 or 3 pages,
And if I see something good I browse that artist's other stuff.

Sometimes if the main gallery is having a bad day I'll start searching fetishes, but not as often as I used to. I mainly search exhentai to indulge fetishes, while I use R34 to explore artwork.

I don't use the blacklist because I find I'm quite good at quickly glancing over thumbnails and instantly identifying whether they're of any interest to me. Plus most stuff on the site is relatively tasteful; it's rare to encounter pagefuls of of macho homoerotica or poorly-drawn scat porn, for example.

If people check each others' favourites to discover new stuff, perhaps I'll consider syncing my bookmarks with my R34 profile, since right now my favourites is empty.

I simply look at the posts and comments, blacklist the stuff that I don't like, and when I see something good, I say "me likey" and add it to my favs.
That's how I discovered my love for buttjobs
