Yeah, good ol' Tetris. One of the reasons why the Game Boy outsold its superior rivals.

Yeah, I won't lie we have come along way with video games. Like the many forums I go to sometimes I find reasonable people, and then other times I find dicks.

Fun fact: The first home console is the Magnavox Odyssey, released 43 years ago.

First time I ever heard of such a thing.
A simple times when the world was Black and white. And Pong was everywhere. I do love that's an Assist Trophy in Smash 4.

A simple time where everything was lines and squares because circles hadn't been invented yet.

I prefer that Nintendo isn't in first place, they always make their best games that way.

This is why I don't go fanboy any console I own, I mean I got all and even a PC but I don't get why people would just start pissing each other off just because of some comparison between a PS3 and a Xbox 360 :/

Many reason, depending on the demographic in question.

Children often want whatever one their friends have or whatever one a person they want to be friends with has. If the parent makes the choice for them, the child will love whatever console their parents bought them and hate all others.

People old enough to know what hardware specifications are (from teenage onwards) start to believe the most powerful console in terms of processing speed, memory size, etc. will be the best one to buy and often mock anyone who doesn't buy that particular console.

Notice that in all of that, games were never mentioned. People are more concerned with either having the superior or popular console that they don't think about which one(s) have the games they want to play.

The funny this is, history shows that the most powerful console within a generation is almost never the most popular. From the ones I know of:

- Gen 4: Sega Genesis vs. Super Nintendo vs. Neo Geo vs. TurboGrafx-16. Neo Geo was the most powerful, SNES sold the most.

- Gen 5: Playstation vs. Nintendo 64 vs. Sega Saturn vs. Atari Jaguar. N64 was the most powerful, PS1 sold the most.

- Gen 6: Playstation 2 vs. GameCube vs. DreamCast vs. Xbox. Xbox was the most powerful, PS2 sold the most.

- Gen 7: Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Nintendo Wii. PS3 was the most powerful (not certain) but Wii sold the most despite only being about as powerful as Xbox.

- Handheld 1: Nintendo Game Boy vs. Sega Game Gear vs. Atari Lynx. GB outsold them all despite being inferior to both rivals.

- Handheld 2: Game Boy Advance vs. Neo Geo Pocket. NGP was more powerful but GBA sold a LOT more.

- Handheld 3: Nintendo DS vs. Playstation Portable. PSP was much more powerful but DS sold more.

If there's one thing to learn from this, it's that I play too many video games... Oh, and the most successful console is not the one with the best specs, but the one with the best games.

Yep the main problem with gaming today, you forget the games but focus so much on the Graphics, and forget what makes a game fun. If I never enjoy a game, and the Graphics look pretty that's all great, but you can't sell me on how great the software is. I need my games to be fun, not something to have a debate on the internet about.

Honestly console wars are just stupid. Real gamers enjoy games, no matter the console, they don't bash other gamers for what they play on
