while i do agree that disabling downvotes was a reasonable course of action,
i do fear that they might respond with more destructive vandalism tactics
like editing tags and sources

They could always do that...but they never did because it's just not productive. They would be caught, and banned, and the tag vandalism they did would be easily reverted. The reason they liked downvote spamming is because it was virtually untraceable, and it was semi-permanent...because it was very difficult to take an -250 image and get it back to 0.

Why not remove the voting in general? What's the point in having upvotes, if you can't have downvotes?

you could ask the same of Facebook
"what's the point of having 'likes', if you can't have 'dislikes' ?"

Gotta admit, I don't think removing downvotes altogether was the right choice.
Now my post threshold filter is useless.

There's always blacklisting tags. If something is that bad it'll have a super low score anyway.

Facebook is a pretty crappy low bar to set your standards on. I don't think more sites emulating it is in any way a good thing.

There's really no reason to have any voting at all if there's only one option. I can see there being a lot more reported comments now that the instant gratification and message of downvoting is gone too.

Not just instant gratification, but now there's no way to feel heard if you dislike something - a comment or post might have any number of upvotes but there's no way to be sure that it wouldn't be negative if people could vote down as well, so it creates a false impression of popularity, approval, or encouragement.

aren't you complaining about something you dislike right now?
complaining the old-fashioned way: with firmly-worded rhetoric

don't pretend that you don't know how to express your negative opinions when there isn't a dedicated button to click

That's kind of ignoring the fact negative comments are often deleted through simply reporting them. Downvoting, whether you like it or not, is an outlet for someone to express their dislike. If you don't want them around or think they're too vulnerable to botting then that's an understandable position.

However, if the downvoting is to go permanently the upvoting needs to go with it. There also needs to be a lot more leeway provided to comment sections that get heated instead of simply purging them as if they never existed. As it is, with how often comments are deleted combined with the upvote only visibility, the site looks like it's pushing towards a path where no negativity can be expressed at all and that is not healthy to any site's longevity.

you mean forum posts or gallery posts?

if gallery, just try posting again
it won't cause duplicates since it does an MD5 lookup first

Don't know where to put this, so please PM me or tell me.
In any case, this was deleted for "not porn", despite being porn.
