It makes me wonder why some artists make the images that big. Unless they plan to put it on a billboard I'd say anything above, say, 2400x2400 is unnecessary. Plus most monitors and no phone can display an image that big in full without shrinking it first.

They make it bigger because it's easier to apply detail. I rarely do this though because it's more expensive, plus I like a challenge.
That makes sense, but you have to admit: That image I found is going a bit overboard in that regard. Since it's not aiming for photorealism the resolution doesn't need to be that high.
Very true. Hmmm... Due to the lack of any other explanation, I have concluded that the artist simply thought "bigger is better".
