9mm or 45ACP?
I directly ripped this question off from Ahoy.

Well in New Vegas, .45 does more damage than 9mm, plus the guns that use .45 are cooler. .45 supremacy baybeeeee

Yeah, I'm an expert, cant ya tell?

Well, some pistols chambered in 9mm are one of the gorgeous weapon ever designed especially the Beretta M9, then again we got the M1911.

personally the 1911 is one of the best if not the best handgun for the mere fact that the design has been with us for more than a century, with some revisions here and there of course

I like the 2011's which made the magazines of 1911 double stack.

I don't know what the 9mm pistol and smg are based off of, being the main 9mm guns in the game. But considering their .45 counterparts are very obviously the Colt 1911 and the Tommy gun, it's pretty hard to compete. Although the main villain in the early story has a pretty pimpin 9mm pistol

45 > 9 so clearly 45 is the better caliber

I’m not an expert, but I personally own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

Though the real question is, if you’re not using an M1 Garand for home defense, are you really defending your home?

gun girl here
I’d generally prefer 9mm if it’s something I’m gonna be carrying regularly for the off chance I get some creep following me back to my car. I live in a safe area though, so I don’t carry.
If I’m hiking, though, I’d prefer a 45ACP, because of animals. Don’t want to risk my two shots (bond arms roughneck) being too weak to bring something down.

I live in a relatively safe town, but I often go hiking in a nearby state park. Standard North America fare for threats there. Bears, maybe coyotes. I could just pack some bear mace, too…

Huh. Maybe carrying a gun around is pretty silly, come to think of it. Oh well.
