Tagging Oddities
I've notice some odd things about tags recently. What's odd is that some will appear, reappear, and disappear.

Appear:
Here's the tag history of a picture I uploaded

rule34.xxx/index.php?page...tag_history&id=902035

If you look at the picture itself you'll notice there are few more tags. This isn't really a bad thing though.

Reappear:
rule34.xxx/index.php?page...tag_history&id=948555

You see I remove the artist_request tag, but if you look at the picture it's back.

Disappear:
Someone commented on 2 pics saying to tag it akr.
rule34.xxx/index.php?page...=tag_history&id=41826

rule34.xxx/index.php?page...=tag_history&id=48740

Both were already tagged akr, but it wasn't there when I tagged it.

Easy explanation of this ^^

I use a tool that that syncs and adds tags done on danbooru/gelbooru/etc that are missing on images here. Basically it modifies the root tags and does not give a shit about tag history. Thats why you see tags added on the image and not tag history.

Nice tool! Anything that adds missing tags is good.

I was aware that content was taken directly from other boorus, but knowing the mystery behind suddenly appearing tags is nice to know.

If a user uploads a picture not found on another booru then this shouldn't come up as there's nothing to sync to correct?

correct, the image has to match a already existing image. Keep in mind i have the biggest database of images throughout the booru community so good luck finding images that don't already exist :)

Another tool you might find useful for pics is NoClone Enterprise. It mass finds duplicates and deletes all but one.
I forget the company that makes the software but you can find it with google.

Since our servers run linux we can use fdupes for this, tough i don't need it yet because we got plenty of diskspace left.

Well, if were now making suggestions can you include the post relationships found on other boorus?

Every post can have a parent. Any post that has a parent will not show up in the main listing. However, the post will appear again if a user does any kind of tag search. This makes it useful for things like duplicates.

Please do not use parent/children for pages of a manga or doujinshi. It's better to use a pool for these.

To use this field, simply enter the id number of the parent post when you upload or edit a post. To search for all the children of a parent post, you can do a tag search for post:nnnn, where nnnn is the id number of the parent post.

Basically it helps you find a higher or lower resolution of a picture you prefer without having to mark it as a duplicate.

On second thought that's probably not going to work since few people actually contribute to the site and wouldn't be willing to go though the trouble.

I've noticed a whole bunch of pics being tagged as translated, even when they're not. I wonder if this explains it. I think that system is labeling pics as translated when they're not. Maybe. I don't know, it's just a guess.

I get the necessity of the system, but I suppose my biggest question would be if we untag something that the system put in there itself before, is it just going to do it again? Because I've been trying to take out the mis-tagged stuff when I see it, but it'd be nice to know whether or not I'm wasting my time and if it will just be back later or not.
