Creating Tags
How do I create my own tags? (Character, Author, etc)

Click edit and add whatever tags you want. Be sure to use _ to separate words instead of spaces. Spaces make new tags

Well the easiest way is don't.
But to address your question, giving a tag the prefix char: will turn it into a character tag, artist: will turn it into author type, copyright: and meta: work respectively too.
I'm only saying this because it's publicly available information under Help > Basic > Help. Odds are that whatever you are thinking can be covered by one of or a mix of tags that are already in use. You should check with the Tag Discussion Thread for solutions unless you are an independent artist uploading your own works that have never been unleashed on the net before.

I'd also like to add that please don't use the pound (#) sign, this isn't Instagram.

Ummm achually, the correct term is octothorp. Sorry, I have a tendency to be pedantic

No worries. If anything, it's better than calling it a hashtag.

You should go to the edit option of the image you want to add the tags to, not the edit section of the tags tab. Apparently meta-tags can't actually be assigned by using meta:, but everything else works there.

Related side question; what exactly is the "meta" category? What would go there? Sorry if I'm 'stealing' the thread, feel free to PM if so.

The meta-tag category is for tags pertaining to information about the image, rather than what appears in the image. Information about the information, generally. Several things that would fall into this category are when it was created, language of text, size (tracked as a site function) or length, or format of media.

1) This is the page where all horny people gathering. Unless it's something racist or cursing, it shouldn't be bad
2) I litterally used the already exist tag, why the hell it is bad words?

Most likely, it's a bad source link. Remove that and try again.

i have a question, well more of a problem, everytime I try to create a 'meta' stage and I add the "meta:" it doesn't work and gets registered as a general tag, have they changed the formatting for it or am I doing something wrong?

Yes I was wrong about meta tags working the same; artist, copy and char can be added in the tag edit box but to make something a meta tag, you must use the tags section of the site and look up the tag itself.

*furiously scribbling notes*
Tried adding tags waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay earlier by going to Help and wound up being horridly, hopelessly confused somehow so this was exceedingly helpful.

Time to grow that glove_snap tag! :DDD
